Happy Holidays

It’s that time of year again, when in between all the cooking, juggling schedules, wrapping gifts and shopping for them, and decorating the house, we pause to remember what it all means. In those moments we think about all the people who enrich our lives. And I definitely include my readers in this gratitude moment. I can’t begin to express how much I have appreciated all of your Facebook conversations, blog comments, and emails. Your support and enthusiasm this year was really remarkable.

Thanks also to all of you who have written in to ask about Night Road in paperback. I know that many of your book clubs have been waiting patiently for the book to be available in trade paperback, and it’s finally almost here. January 3rd is the day, so mark it on your calendars. I know many of you finished the book and immediately picked up the phone to call a friend, and now that the book is in paperback, even more women will be able to read it and discuss the many issues raised in the novel. I love to hear what you think, so don’t be shy, come on over to Facebook and let me know!

If January belongs to Night Road, then February is Home Front month. This novel has absolutely stolen my heart and I hope you’ll agree that it is my best, most powerful novel to date. It is timely and provocative and emotional—a look at the price of deployment on a single American family. It’s both a family drama and a love story. I know how busy you all are now, and February seems a long way off, but if you want to know a little bit about the book, check out my Facebook page.

And don’t forget my thank-you-to-readers gift this year. I have “The Glass Case” available for a free download until February. With it, you’ll get a sneak peek at Home Front. I hope you enjoy this heartwarming story.

Although I don’t have a new book out this December, don’t forget that in these difficult economic times, nothing makes a better, more lasting gift than a book. In my family we have a tradition of opening one present on Christmas Eve, and it is always a book. The original idea was that if we kids were going to be up all night waiting for Santa we might as well be reading. 🙂 It’s a tradition I have enthusiastically passed on to my own son. I love giving him pieces of my own life— and that’s how I feel about books. The Lord of the Rings will always remind me of the year I turned thirteen, for example. If you’d like some examples of favorite books, check out my blog. Someone will have the perfect recommendation for you, I promise.

I wish you all happiness, joy, and peace in this holiday season.

Kristin

All marriages have a breaking point. All families have wounds. All wars have a cost…

Like many couples, Michael and Jolene have to face the pressures of everyday life—children, careers, bills, chores—even as their twelve year marriage is falling apart. Then an unexpected deployment sends Jolene deep into harm’s way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a soldier she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth. But war will change Jolene in ways that none of them could have foreseen. When tragedy strikes, Michael must face his darkest fear and fight a battle of his own–for everything that matters to his family.

At once a profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic exploration of the price of war on an ordinary American family, HOME FRONT is a story of love, loss, heroism, honor and ultimately, hope.

NIGHT ROAD: Coming in Paperback January 3rd

For eighteen years, Jude Farraday has put her children’s needs above her own, and it shows—her twins, Mia and Zach—are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable.

Jude does everything to keep her kids on track for college and out of harm’s way. It has always been easy– until senior year of high school. Suddenly she is at a loss. Nothing feels safe anymore; every time her kids leave the house, she worries about them.

On a hot summer’s night her worst fears come true. One decision will change the course of their lives. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget…or the courage to forgive.

Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.
